Umbreon is curled into a tight, round ball with its head tucked in, and its glowing yellow rings look like small lanterns in the dark. The holo foil scatters glittering specks across the background, so the whole scene feels like a sleeping Umbreon surrounded by stars. The card’s category line reads げっこうポケモン, “Moonlight Pokémon,” which fits a Pokémon that spends the night curled up in its own soft glow.

It’s also a trainer card with some history. Karen, an Elite Four member, owns an Umbreon in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal. That makes this a quieter side of a famously cool, composed trainer’s partner, caught resting away from the battle. And this is a Japanese card that has not been officially released in English, so it’s a nice addition to the stack for anyone who likes the Japanese-only prints
