Torchic is stretched out on its side with its eyes peacefully closed, while flames climb in the background and a blue sky with puffy clouds sits above. For a Fire-type, a blaze is just a warm blanket, and this Torchic looks perfectly at home. The scene is drawn in a bold, hand-colored style that feels like it came straight out of a sketchbook, because it did.

This isn’t an official artwork card.

In 2004, Kids’ WB! ran an illustration contest in the United States, with a category for each of Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Wurmple and Pikachu. May Do’s drawing won the Torchic category, and the prize was 50 packs containing all five winning cards plus a $500 Target gift card. So this card is a real piece of fan art that got printed as a Pokémon card, and it’s a lovely way to see a sleeping Torchic through someone else’s eyes.
