Underrated Sleepy Pokemon Cards

Some of the sleepiest art in the Pokémon TCG hides in commons, stadiums and overlooked rares that sell for a few dollars or less. Here are twelve cards that deserve more love, including a Special Illustration Rare and two Illustration Rares that cost less than a booster pack.

Poppy sleepy Pokemon card from Obsidian Flames

#1 / Obsidian Flames / 227/197 / Special Illustration Rare

Poppy

Poppy / English / Ryota Murayama

Special Illustration Rares aren’t supposed to cost this little. Poppy, the smallest of Paldea’s Elite Four, has fallen asleep against her enormous Copperajah, and the size difference is the whole joke.

Lycanroc sleepy Pokemon card from Journey Together

#3 / Journey Together / 166/159 / Illustration Rare

Lycanroc

Lycanroc / English / GIDORA

Lycanroc is supposed to be fierce. Here it has collapsed in the dirt with its paws gone limp, and somehow nobody is chasing this Illustration Rare.

Togedemaru sleepy Pokemon card from Phantasmal Flames

#4 / Phantasmal Flames / 104/94 / Illustration Rare

Togedemaru

Togedemaru / English / Orca

One dozes by the tree, the other peeks over the grass to see what it’s missing. Orca’s sunlit glade deserves more fans.

Cosmoem sleepy Pokemon card from Celebrations

#5 / Celebrations / 14/25 / Rare

Cosmoem

Cosmoem / English / kirisAki

Who looks at a Cosmoem card twice? You should: Lillie and Cosmoem are fast asleep side by side, a Pokémon that weighs more than a ton and the girl who carried it around in a bag.

Slumbering Forest sleepy Pokemon card from Unified Minds

#6 / Unified Minds / 207/236 / Uncommon

Slumbering Forest

Slumbering Forest / English / Ryo Ueda

If this site had a home address, it would be this glowing mushroom grove. Stadium cards rarely make it into art binders. This one should open yours.

Cyndaquil sleepy Pokemon card from BREAKthrough

#7 / BREAKthrough / 18/162 / Common

Cyndaquil

Cyndaquil / English / Tomokazu Komiya

Fire-type. Firewood. Fast asleep on top of it. Tomokazu Komiya made a common that deserves a frame.

Togetic sleepy Pokemon card from Unbroken Bonds

#8 / Unbroken Bonds / 137/214 / Uncommon

Togetic

Togetic / English / sui

Most people flip straight past uncommons. Flip back for this one: sui’s Togetic, asleep between pink blossoms in soft forest light.

Koraidon sleepy Pokemon card from Scarlet & Violet Promos

#9 / Scarlet & Violet Promos / 14/215 / Promo

Koraidon

Koraidon / English / Mina Nakai

Scarlet’s legendary, snoozing on a cliff edge above a waterfall like it has nowhere to be. Promos rarely get a second look, and this one has earned several.

Tepig sleepy Pokemon card from Cosmic Eclipse

#10 / Cosmic Eclipse / 31/236 / Common

Tepig

Tepig / English / Mina Nakai

Face-down on the pillow, Poké Ball abandoned on the bed. Tepig did not plan this nap. Easy to lose in a 236-card set, and one of the most relatable cards here.

Kangaskhan sleepy Pokemon card from HS—Triumphant

#11 / HS—Triumphant / 36/102 / Uncommon

Kangaskhan

Kangaskhan / English / Mitsuhiro Arita

Baby tucked into mom’s pouch, both of them dozing. One of Mitsuhiro Arita’s gentlest HeartGold & SoulSilver-era cards.

Gible sleepy Pokemon card from Legendary Treasures

#12 / Legendary Treasures / 94/113 / Common

Gible

Gible / English / sui

Find the one who’s asleep. In a cave full of flustered, squabbling Gible, one at the top has quietly slipped off for a nap.
